PE and School Sport Premium

The English government is providing additional and substantial, ring-fenced funding to provide support to primary PE and school sport. The funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and will see money going directly to primary schools to spend on improving the quality of physical education and sport for all.

The government’s aim is for all primary aged pupils to be physically literate and with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport.

Our Vision at Wootton Park

It is our aim at Wootton Park School to provide opportunities for our learners to safely experience a range of sporting activities for fun and enjoyment. Through carefully planned PE lessons and a variety of sports activities, we aim to ensure that all learners develop a love of sport and an understanding that sport helps to keep people physically and mentally healthy. We strive to provide high quality PE and sports teaching in both curriculum and after school clubs.

We aim to ensure that within their own level of ability all learners can achieve and experience success, thereby enabling them to reach their full potential.

We value the benefits of PE and sport to build children’s self-confidence, esteem and self-worth, which leads to character building and is essential for our learners’ development. We aim to provide opportunities for the learners to experience competition at various levels both individually and as part of a team through healthy competitive games internally and against other local schools.

Competitions – Team Selection

At Wootton Park learners are selected and invited to participate in sporting festivals and competitions through their performance in PE lessons, extra-curricular clubs and training sessions. When appropriate, trials will be held to select team members. Attendance at and commitment to clubs and training are also important factors during selection for sporting teams.
